Hey Insiders!
Facebook has announced the new Graph Search. If you’re anything like us at Hubze, you have likely read a couple articles or know generally about this social network’s enhancement. Well actually, if you’re like us, you’ve been slightly obsessed with it. But for those of you who haven’t heard too much, not to worry, Dave and Kevin’s super informative webinar can catch you up to speed.
While understanding the importance of this revolutionizing new search feature is critical, how to capitalize on it for your small business is even more so. That’s where we come in. Kristen and Jen have written articles about what role Facebook Check-Ins play in this big transition and how to encourage them. If you haven’t already, go check them out!
I am here to talk about your ABOUT SECTION. Believe me, I know it doesn’t seem particularly interesting or glamorous but we have to do away with that stigma. Your company’s About Section is going to be a pivotal aspect to your success with the Graph Search.
Currently rounding out at people, pictures, places and interests, the re-engineered search feature allows Facebook users to satisfy their query using their “friends” as sources or in some cases, results. Some query examples are, “restaurants my friends like” or “places my friends have been to in Denver, CO.” With examples like those, it is easy to see why Kristen and Jen’s articles are a great resource; What other way will FB be able to know where your friends have visited if they don’t check in? In the same context, how would Facebook be able to know places your friends have been IN Denver if companies don’t have a fully loaded About Section with their location filled out accurately?
Boom. The disgruntled, attention craving About Section has finally proclaimed competition with the Facebook Photo or Status.
That’s not to say though that the About Section is only relevant for brick and mortar businesses. Even if your company is remote, finding it’s home in a url, this article can still be extremely beneficial.
I am going to give you a few simple tips to optimize your company’s About Section. Using these tips, in combination with ‘check-ins’ and ‘likes,’ Graph Search has the potential to seriously open up your consumer market.
In order to carry out any of the tips outlined below you will have to go to the Basic Information section of your company’s Facebook page.
When most people think about the About Section, this is the first thing that comes to mind: The direct text under the ‘About’ title, or the company’s description. I’m sure most of you have these subsections filled out, as they are the most direct expression in the entire section. Right now the text in these two subsections don’t have any direct implications in the Graph Search but there is speculation that it will eventually. To be proactive, include keywords or buzz words that most people would identify with your service or product.
Choose an appropriate, relevant category for your business and choose three similar subcategories that may be more search friendly.
If your business has an address make sure to document it accurately and also ensure that Facebook recognizes it. FB will recognize your location or address by showing it on a Bing search map underneath.
Facebook has stipulated that your Facebook page vanity URL is important along with your company’s website. Make sure to have both of these solidified and viewable.
What do you guys think? Was your About Section already Graph Search ready or did you find this helpful? Let me know in the comments below! Feel to ask any questions.
